Position Summary
The Administrative Nursing Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for nursing services across the hospital during evening and night shifts. This role ensures adherence to established standards of nursing practice, patient care, and hospital policies while supporting staff, promoting teamwork, and maintaining high-quality patient outcomes.
The Coordinator functions as the on-site administrative and clinical leader, addressing operational, staffing, and patient care needs in real time while serving as a resource, mentor, and role model for nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee nursing operations during evening and night shifts.
- Ensure compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Make routine rounds to evaluate patient care, staff performance, and adherence to protocols.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and clinical support to nursing staff.
- Manage staffing levels for current and upcoming shifts.
- Respond to and oversee all hospital codes, ensuring appropriate documentation and resources.
- Monitor patient safety practices including restraints, 1:1 observation, falls, and risk assessments.
- Investigate and resolve incidents, complaints, and operational issues; communicate findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, and nursing research.
- Support staff development through education, mentoring, and participation in professional programs.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and positive working relationships across departments.
- Ensure timely communication of organizational updates and departmental information.
- Monitor and improve patient satisfaction and customer service initiatives.
- Report patient safety concerns and escalate critical issues to CNO and DON as appropriate.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to generate reports and analyze data trends.
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, CQI processes, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and commitment to continuous learning.
- Clinical competency in relevant specialty area.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Certifications & Licensure
- Active New York State RN License (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required).
