Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Hemodialysis Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized care to patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) requiring hemodialysis. Care is delivered based on professional nursing standards, clinical assessment, and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform focused physical, psychosocial, and pain assessments of dialysis patients.
- Develop individualized care plans based on assessment data, nursing diagnoses, and patient goals.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation and reassessment, adjusting care plans as needed.
- Initiate and terminate dialysis treatments for patients with AV grafts, fistulas, and catheters.
- Monitor and document patient responses during treatment, including vital signs and complications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating dialysis machines and associated equipment.
- Administer medications safely and monitor for adverse effects.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and patients.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in patient medical records.
- Promote patient education, referrals, and preventative care activities.
- Recognize and respond promptly to dialysis complications or emergencies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of clinical experience in medical-surgical, emergency room, or critical care nursing.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Hemodialysis Nurse.
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Competence in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and respect in all interactions.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts.
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Will Accept: Associate’s Degree with a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant hemodialysis and acute care experience.
Licensure & Certifications
- Required: Current New York State RN License, BLS, ACLS.
- Preferred: Basic Arrhythmia Certificate and Nephrology Nursing Certification.
Schedule:
- 3 Day per week - Monday, Wednesday, Friday
